The students of the 11th Gymnasium of Heraklion Crete make ... compost! With the sponsorship of the Waste Management Association of Crete, a compostor was given to our school at the request of the students of the 11th Gymnasium of Heraklion. The placement of the special compost bucket was carried out with the supervision and instructions of the science teacher Mr. Yannis Patsakis, in the framework of the ecological actions of the European Erasmus + Eco School Program, KA2 entitled "Little steps make a big difference. Together we care for our home. ยป For those who do not know, composting is a natural process that turns organic materials into a rich dark substance. This substance is called compost or humus or soil improviser. Composting is a very immediate and important way of recycling. It has been calculated that 35% of household waste can be composted. Waste like egg shells, fruit and vegetable peels, bread, tea bags, coffee,cereals, plant leaves (leaves, branches and flowers, dried leaves), papers (not dirty), straw or sawdust, hair, dung, soil or compost can be placed in the compost bin and give us a beautiful soil improvement product!!!!
